Thomas is an Australian designer with 15 years of experience across product, brand, and strategy. He has worked with brands and companies of all sizes, from startups to industry leaders, including Apple, Patagonia, MINI, Sonos, and The Wall Street Journal.
In 2009 Thomas founded the Melbourne-based design studio, Hunt & Co. In his role as Creative Director, Thomas led a diverse range of projects with clients, including Lend Lease, Driza-Bone, Melbourne Olympic Parks, Vasse Felix, and Xero.
In 2011 he founded Made Publishers, a boutique publishing company with a focus on design and culture. Made published over 20 editions of Process Journal, MADE, and Nourished Journal, all of which could be found in stockists globally, including MoMA (New York) and The Design Museum (London). Thomas’s work for Made has been awarded and recognized by his peers and has been featured in publications by Thames & Hudson, Unit Editions, and Gestalten.
In 2015 Thomas relocated to the United States, living and working in both Los Angeles and New York. In late 2015 he took on the role of Sr. Design Director at The Wall Street Journal, and in 2019 was promoted to Vice President of Design. He has designed experiences that are engaged with by millions of users daily, across the WSJ Apps, platforms, and WSJ.com. One of Thomas’s projects, the WSJ iOS App was recognized with a Webby award for ‘Best News App’ from the Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences. Thomas also oversaw the design, implementation, and documentation of WSJ’s end-to-end design system.
In 2021 Thomas relocated back to Melbourne, where he now works with select partners across Australia and North America under his design consultancy, Thomas Williams & Co.
